Pandemic Preparedness

Like many of us, we’ve been carefully watching the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) around the world, into the United States, and now into Iowa.  All banks have been required for many years to have a formal Pandemic Plan in place. With the emergence of COVID-19, we recently reviewed and discussed our plan to assess our preparedness and ability to provide our customers critical financial services during what could be a serious event.  Our primary concern is the health and safety of our customers and employees.

As of today, March 17th, 2020, First Security State Bank is open for business with drive-through services and has closed lobby doors.  Lobby traffic will be by appointment only.  Please contact the bank by phone if requesting an appointment at (319) 235-6731 in Evansdale and (319) 266-0474 in Cedar Falls.  Thank you for your patience and understanding in this process.  If circumstances change we will let you know here and on our Facebook page.  Please watch this page and follow us on Facebook for important information or call the bank if you have a concern.

What Are We Doing to Prepare?

  • Monitoring the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Iowa Department of Public Health for accurate and up-to-date information
  • Preparing for possible increased employee absences due to sickness
  • Educating our staff on risks, symptoms, and hygiene measures for themselves and work areas
  • Encouraging ill employees to stay at home and not return until free of symptoms
  • Performing regular cleaning and sanitation throughout the bank

What FSSB Products and Services Are Available to Limit Exposure?

There is a lot of media discussion about the protection afforded by wearing masks or respirators, driven in many cases by misinformation, panic buying and stockpiling. According to the World Health Organization, for asymptomatic individuals, wearing a mask of any type is not recommended. Because of this recommendation, and because the wearing of masks in a bank is a security concern, masks and respirators are not allowed in the bank.

We have always asked our staff to stay home from work if they are ill, whether it’s a common cold, seasonal flu or COVID-19, to protect other employees and customers. In the same way, we would ask your cooperation in limiting your bank visits if you are feeling ill.

Your business is important to us. Continuing to provide access to essential functions and assist you with any financial needs is of utmost priority to us during this challenging event. If you have any questions, please reach out to any employee at First Security State Bank.
